Rotating Squares in Blue
White Box Eight is one of a series of works in landscape format contained in a glossy white box. Each of these pieces is lit by LED strips, powered by a lithium polymer battery. In order to preserve battery life the lights are operated by a sensor that only turns on when somebody stands in front of it.
In this box the organising principal is one of rotation. In each cell the cut-out squares rotate from the front layer to the back layer by 15 degrees at a time. There are six layers, so that the final square is in the same orientation as the first.
As you can see the six pierced layers are in a variety of blues and the back drop is a strong yellow. This work is no longer available as my daughter has taken a liking to it.
